This Edwardian Sheraton-style tallboy is an upright chest of drawers fashioned from solid satinwood and satinwood veneers over a solid mahogany carcass, presented in a warm golden brown colour. The bow-fronted body contains an arrangement of four short upper drawers over four long graduated lower drawers, all fitted with brass swan-neck handles, lockable mechanisms with keys, inlaid stringing, and tulipwood cross-banding, supported by out-swept bracket feet. Measuring 150 cm high, 107 cm wide and 53 cm deep, the piece offers substantial storage capacity. Designed by Turner, Woodward & Co of Manchester, the chest sits comfortably in an English Country House setting, providing practical storage for folded clothing and linens in a bedroom or dressing room. The polished wooden surfaces and clean lines also suit a hallway or landing as a striking statement piece that complements traditional interior arrangements.

A tallboy is a tall chest of drawers designed to maximize vertical storage space, frequently crafted from highly figured timber such as satinwood during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Traditional satinwood tallboys feature golden satinwood veneers over a secondary wood frame like pine or oak, adorned with ebony or boxwood stringing inlays and brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural oxidation along drawer linings, original brass hardware with aged patina, and fine hand-laid decorative crossbanding.

Position the piece against a muted or dark tone wall to accentuate its golden timber grain, keeping surface decor minimal with understated ceramic or metallic objects.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to preserve the veneer, dusting routinely with a soft dry cloth and applying clear beeswax along the grain annually.
