Shahsevan salt bags were traditionally woven by nomadic pastoralist groups in north-west Persia for practical household storage, specifically used to hold rock salt for livestock.

They are typically constructed using hand-spun wool for both warp and weft, employing intricate flatweave or slit-tapestry techniques dyed with natural pigments.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the quality of natural dyes, hand-spun wool inconsistencies, structural wear patterns, and traditional tribal geometric motifs typical of the region.

These small textiles work exceptionally well when mounted on linen or framed as wall art, bringing rich texture and heritage colour palettes into contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, avoiding excessive moisture, and gently vacuuming with a mesh screen covering to protect fragile fibres.
