Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:
Cast brass lion-mask ring handles: Regency metalwork with natural oxidisation in the recesses.
Ring-turned tapering legs: early nineteenth-century cabinet making.
Flame mahogany veneers on the drawer fronts: rich figure from period Cuban timber.
Applied geometric moulding on the fronts: popular neoclassical styling.
Soft patination and faint fading on the top surface: generations of domestic waxing.

This Regency mahogany sideboard stands on six turned reeded legs and presents a bowfront outline in warm brown flame mahogany with a beautifully figured grain. The symmetrical façade contains four oak-lined drawers enriched with geometric wood inlay, applied moulded detailing, and round brass lion-mask ring pull handles. The top surface is flat with a bowed front edge, while the sides are plain wood panels. Measuring 91 cm high, 145 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, the piece offers a practical surface for serving and display. In a contemporary home, this sideboard serves as a functional serving station in a dining room or a handsome console table in a hallway or living space. The storage drawers accommodate table linen, cutlery, or household items while adding traditional character and neoclassical presence to an interior. The sturdy construction and warm timber tones integrate easily into both classic and transitional room schemes.

Regency sideboards, produced primarily between 1800 and 1830 in Great Britain, are defined by Neoclassical influences, symmetrical proportions, curved or bowfront outlines, finely figured mahogany veneers, and brass hardware such as lion-mask ring pulls.

Primary woods include solid mahogany and figured flame mahogany veneers, often accented with boxwood or ebony inlay. Secondary internal timbers typically consist of pine or oak, complemented by solid cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, irregular hand-planed underside surfaces, original lock mechanisms, and signs of natural timber shrinkage along panel joins.

A Regency sideboard is often positioned in a formal dining room or wide hallway, balanced with contemporary abstract artwork overhead, minimalist ceramics, or contemporary lighting to contrast the dark mahogany tones.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources, radiators, or direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer splitting.
