Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian freestanding writing desk dates from 1900 and uses golden brown satinwood, green leather and brass. The superstructure holds a scroll-shaped top above a painted floral panel, flanked by four small drawers topped with brass galleries. Below lies an inset green leather writing surface surrounded by a border, above three decorative painted drawers fitted with original brass drop handles. The superstructure stands on four square tapering legs with string inlay, terminating in original metal castors. The desk measures 104 cm high, 91.5 cm wide and 53.5 cm deep. Position this writing table as a functional centrepiece in a study, library or drawing room, where the freestanding layout permits placement away from walls. The flat leather surface provides a workspace for writing, while the raised drawers and upper tiers offer compartments for stationery and small items.

Edwardian satinwood furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, often draws inspiration from 18th-century Sheraton Revival forms. It is characterised by blonde or golden satinwood timbers decorated with hand-painted neo-classical motifs, ribbons, floral garlands, and delicate marquetry inlays.

These desks were crafted using dense West Indian or East Indian satinwood veneers over oak or mahogany carcass wood. Additional elements included hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, brass drawer handles, castors, and pierced brass gallery trims.

Authentic pieces display period-correct drawer construction with fine hand-cut dovetails, genuine age-related oxidisation on brass hardware, and subtle hand-painted detailing rather than modern printed transfers.

A satinwood writing desk functions as a functional accent piece in a home office, bedroom, or living area alcove. Pairing the warm timber tones with contemporary seating or neutral walls creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Position the furniture away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood shrinkage, lacquer bleaching, or leather drying. Clean the timber with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly, and use dedicated leather nourishers on the inset surface.
