Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian sideboard is constructed from warm brown mahogany timbers, finished with flame mahogany veneers, satinwood crossbanding, and boxwood line inlays. The piece stands upon eight tapered legs with spade feet and has an arrangement of four oak-lined drawers and two cupboards, fitted with decorative brass ring drop handles. Measuring 90 cm high, 158 cm wide, and 75 cm deep, the sideboard provides substantial surface space and storage capacity. In a home today, this sideboard is used in a dining room or living space for serving food and drinks during gatherings, or for storing tableware, linens, and everyday dining essentials. The classic proportions and refined timber details suit traditional or classic interior schemes, fitting neatly against a dining room wall or in a large hallway to display decorative items on top.

FAQs

Georgian sideboards originated in late 18th-century Britain as functional serving tables with integrated storage cupboards and drawers. They are recognised for their classical proportions, use of mahogany, and refined brass hardware.

These sideboards were constructed primarily from solid and veneered mahogany, often featuring boxwood or satinwood stringing inlay. Drawers typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and brass drop-ring or oval plate handles.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-sawn drawer construction, original lock mechanisms, and subtle timber shrinkage on solid panels over time. The underside and back panels generally show hand-planed finishes rather than modern machine-cut marks.

A Georgian sideboard serves as a focal statement piece in modern dining rooms, entry halls, or living spaces. Pairing the piece with contemporary artwork, oversized ceramic lamps, or minimalist mirrors creates a balanced contrast between period craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Protect the finish by applying high-grade beeswax paste twice yearly and keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
