Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter and simpler in design than heavy Victorian pieces, frequently draws inspiration from earlier 18th-century styles such as Sheraton and Chippendale.

Pieces from this period commonly utilise native timbers like oak, walnut, and mahogany, often featuring solid construction methods such as dovetail joints in drawers and hand-carved decorative elements.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate hardware, bevelled glass mirrors with subtle oxidisation, hand-cut dovetail joints, and characteristic grain patterns consistent with early 20th-century manufacturing.

Pairing dark wood period furniture with neutral walls, minimalist textiles, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, and apply natural beeswax periodically to nourish the surface while avoiding silicone-based polishes.
