The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like oak or pine, joined using hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer constructions.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetails, handmade brass hardware, irregular timber grain consistent with hand-sawing, and signs of natural oxidisation and wear on internal runner surfaces.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with clean-walled modern spaces creates a balanced focal point, allowing the rich grain and traditional craftsmanship to provide textural contrast.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry, soft cloth and applying periodic coats of natural beeswax, avoiding silicone-based sprays and keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
