Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in build and colour than Victorian pieces, drew inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, incorporating neoclassical motifs and fine marquetry inlay.

Cabinet makers predominantly used mahogany, satinwood, and walnut for veneers and solid construction, frequently complemented by boxwood or ebony stringing, brass hardware, and bevelled mirror glass.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, secondary softwoods such as pine or oak on internal framing, original brass or copper hardware, and backboards made of tongue-and-groove planks rather than modern plywood.

An antique wooden wardrobe acts as a dramatic focal point in a contemporary bedroom, providing a grounding architectural element that contrasts effectively with minimalist walls and neutral textiles.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, and clean periodically using a soft, dry cloth and high-quality beeswax rather than silicone-based polishes.
