FAQs

Bow front chests of drawers became prominent during the late 18th and 19th centuries, particularly within the Georgian and Regency periods, valued for their curved facades that softened room geometry.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid timbers like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction and secondary woods such as pine for internal linings.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-dovetailed drawer joints, the presence of traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass hardware, and the character of the wood grain.

An antique chest of drawers can serve as a focal point in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, offering functional storage while introducing historic warmth and contrasting texture.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood finish.
