Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Anatolian prayer rug is traditionally characterised by a distinctive mihrab arch design at one end, which was historically oriented towards Mecca during daily prayers. These pieces originated in the weaving centres of Anatolia, now modern-day Turkey, spanning centuries of rich cultural heritage.

Authentic antique pieces are typically hand-knotted using natural wool for both the pile and the foundation warp and weft threads. Dyes were traditionally derived from local plants, insects, and minerals, resulting in rich, nuanced colour palettes that develop a distinct patina over time.

Authentication involves examining the knot density, the natural irregularities in the hand-spun wool, and the ageing characteristics of natural vegetable dyes. Irregularities in symmetry and knot count on the reverse side typically indicate traditional hand-craftsmanship rather than machine production.

These textiles add texture, historical depth, and warmth to modern schemes, functioning effectively as wall hangings, focal point floor coverings, or layered accents over larger neutral base rugs. Their rich colour schemes complement both minimalist spaces and eclectic, layered interiors.

Preservation requires gentle, regular vacuuming without a beater bar, professional specialist cleaning when necessary, and positioning away from direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent dye fading. Using a breathable underlay helps prevent slippage and protects the fragile historic foundation.
