A church flagon is a large vessel historically used in Christian denominations to hold sacramental wine during communion services, often crafted from pewter, silver, or brass.

Traditional pewter flagons were manufactured from an alloy primarily composed of tin, mixed with copper, lead, or bismuth, typically formed through casting and hand-beating techniques.

Authenticity is generally determined by examining makers marks or touchmarks stamped into the metal, combined with evidence of period casting techniques, wear patterns, and the natural oxidisation of the alloy.

These vessels function effectively as decorative display objects on open shelving, sideboards, or mantelpieces, adding historical texture and metallic contrast to contemporary or traditional schemes.

Antique pewter should be cleaned gently using a soft cloth and warm soapy water, avoiding harsh chemical polishes or abrasive pads to preserve the historic patina and surface integrity.
