Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Furniture from this era is recognised for its restrained architectural lines, functional forms, and extensive use of native light hardwoods like flame birch. Smooth veneers with expressive natural figuring replaced complex carved ornamentation, reflecting a focus on light and geometric proportion.

Scandinavian cabinetmakers commonly constructed structural framing from pine or spruce, surfacing visible exterior facades with veneers of birch, flame birch, ash, or fruitwood. Internal drawer linings were typically made from native softwoods.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber secondary framing, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original steel or iron lock mechanisms, and book-matched timber veneers. The absence of modern synthetic adhesives or circular saw marks on the back panels helps confirm period origin.

The pale golden tone and minimalist structure of birch furniture allow it to complement contemporary Scandinavian, minimalist, or traditional schemes. Positioned in a hallway or living space, the clean geometry balances both modern upholstered pieces and period antiques.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer movement or lifting. Regular dusting with a soft dry cloth and an occasional application of clear beeswax polish preserves the original surface finish without causing build-up.
