Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four King Georges of Great Britain (1714 to 1830), characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and a transition from heavy oak to lighter woods like mahogany, though regional pieces often retained sturdy native oak.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid native hardwoods such as oak or elm for carcass construction, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer frames, tongue-and-groove drawer bases, and backboards made of secondary softwoods like pine.

Authenticity is indicated by irregular hand-cut dovetailing, handmade wrought iron or brass fixings, timber shrinkage and oxidisation consistent with age, and signs of hand-planing on secondary surfaces rather than modern machine tooling.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist modern decor creates a balanced focal point; use the surface to display a simple contemporary ceramic lamp or abstract art while letting the natural grain contrast cleanly against neutral walls.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels and keep the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking, periodically treating the surface with a high-grade beeswax to nourish the timber without creating a synthetic buildup.
