Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

The Chesterfield sofa originated in the 18th century, traditionally associated with the Earl of Chesterfield, and became a staple of British interior design known for its distinctive deep button tufting and rolled arms.

Authentic pieces typically feature a solid hardwood frame, hand-tied coil springs, horsehair or wool stuffing, and premium full-grain leather secured with individual brass tack nails.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the frame construction for traditional joinery, inspecting the leather for natural ageing and patina, checking the hand-applied webbing, and looking for maker marks or stamps.

Pairing the rich texture of the leather with minimalist contemporary furnishings, neutral wall colours, and sleek metal accents creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Preservation involves keeping the leather away from direct sunlight and heat sources, regularly dusting with a soft cloth, and applying specialist leather balms to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking.
