Art Deco furniture, emerging prominently in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric forms, streamlined silhouettes, and a focus on luxurious materials and exotic veneers.

These pieces typically feature a solid wood or secondary timber carcase overlaid with highly figured burr walnut veneer, which is prized for its swirling, organic grain patterns and rich colour.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period-specific construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, traditional shellac or French polish finishes, and genuine age-related patination on the veneer.

An Art Deco chest functions as a strong focal point in a contemporary bedroom or living space, pairing well with minimalist surroundings, neutral colour palettes, and metallic accents that echo its luxurious heritage.

Protect the delicate burr walnut veneer by keeping the piece out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a specialist microcrystalline wax.
