Marine oil paintings typically depict ships, seascapes, naval battles, or coastal harbours, often reflecting the maritime heritage and history of specific regions.

Traditional pieces were typically created using oil paints applied to stretched canvas, linen, or wood panels, often framed in ornate wood and gesso frames.

Authentication involves examining canvas ageing, craquelure patterns, artist signatures, stretcher frame construction, and pigments consistent with the purported era.

Hang the artwork as a focal point against neutral walls to highlight its historical character, combining it with minimalist frames or traditional furnishings depending on the desired contrast.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity and temperature levels, and dust gently with a soft, dry brush without using chemical cleaners.
