George II furniture, spanning roughly from 1727 to 1760, bridges the gap between early 18th-century baroque heaviness and the lighter neoclassical lines. It is characterised by architectural proportions, the widespread adoption of Cuban mahogany, and polished craftsmanship featuring brass batwing handles and bracket feet.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid and veneered dense timbers such as mahogany and oak, joined using hand-cut dovetails for the drawer construction. Secondary woods such as deal or oak were often utilised for internal framing and drawer linings.

Authenticity is identified through period construction markers, including hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, original cast brass hardware matching the era, and genuine foxing or oxidisation to the old mercury or silvered mirror plates.

Pairing historical timber furniture with clean, contemporary walls and minimal decor allows the rich grain and patina of the wood to serve as a focal point. It functions effectively as a statement storage piece in a hallway, living room, or bedroom.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent wood splitting. Regularly nourish the timber using traditional beeswax and buffing with a soft cloth, avoiding modern silicone-based polishes.
