Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

A bachelors chest is a compact chest of drawers featuring a fold-over top that serves as a writing surface. These versatile pieces first gained popularity in Georgian England during the early 18th century as space-saving furniture for gentlemen.

Authentic period pieces are traditionally constructed using dense hardwoods like yew, often featuring burr veneers, oak drawer linings, and hand-cut dovetail joints. Brass swing handles and escutcheons are standard hardware fixtures.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-dovetailed drawer construction, timber shrinkage patterns, natural oxidisation on internal surfaces, and period-appropriate brass hardware without modern machine marks.

A bachelors chest functions well as a bedside table or a compact statement piece in a hallway. Pair it with contemporary minimalist decor or neutral walls to highlight the rich grain and warm tones of the wood.

Preserve the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking. Apply microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface, avoiding silicone-based polishes.
