FAQs

The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, marking an era of immense modernisation and openness to the West, which led to a flourishing of master metalworkers and fine art casting.

These pieces were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting method, employing high-quality copper and bronze alloys, often finished with chemical patination to achieve deep dark tones.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit fine hand-chased detailing, natural patination consistent with age, and sometimes artisan signatures or foundry marks on the base.

Place the sculpture on a simple wooden plinth, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to allow its intricate craftsmanship and dark patina to stand out as a focal point.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners, water, or polishes which can strip the historic patina.
