Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century painted pine furniture typically originates from rural or domestic contexts, characterised by utilitarian design, sturdy construction, and surfaces finished in layered milk paint or oil-based pigments that have developed natural patination over time.

These pieces were constructed primarily from native softwood timber such as Scots pine, often joined using traditional hand-cut dovetails for drawers, mortise and tenon joints for frames, and secured with wooden pegs or wrought iron hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining tool marks left by hand planes and saws, the presence of period-correct cut nails or handmade screws, shrinkage cracks in the timber, and the natural oxidisation and wear patterns underneath historical layers of paint.

This type of item functions effectively as a grounding element in contemporary kitchens, living spaces, or dining rooms, contrasting clean modern lines with rustic texture and introducing heritage colour into a neutral colour palette.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners, and occasionally dusting with a dry microfibre cloth to protect the fragile historic paint layer.
