A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a tall piece of furniture featuring a smaller chest stacked directly on top of a larger one, which became popular during the Georgian period for maximizing vertical storage.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often complemented by secondary softwoods like oak or pine for drawer linings and carcases.

Authenticity is typically verified through hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass drop handles, secondary timbers inside the drawers, and natural timber oxidisation consistent with late 18th or early 19th-century construction.

An antique tallboy provides strong architectural presence and can be balanced in a modern room by pairing it with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and clean-lined contemporary furnishings.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and clean it periodically using a soft, dry cloth without applying modern silicone-based polishes.
