Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often moved away from the heavy, dark ornamentation of the Victorian era towards lighter, more refined designs inspired by 18th-century Sheraton and Chippendale revivals.

Traditional wardrobes from this period were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, frequently featuring fine veneer work, solid brass or cast metal hardware, and bevelled glass mirrors.

Authentic pieces typically feature period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in drawer boxes, backboards made of secondary timbers like pine, cast brass locks and fittings, and often manufacturer stamps or paper labels.

A substantial wooden piece acts as a strong focal point in a modern bedroom, contrasting effectively against neutral plastered walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary textiles to add depth and historical character.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping or cracking, applying natural beeswax polish periodically, and cleaning glass mirror panels with a lint-free cloth and mild solution.
