Baluch rugs are traditional hand-knotted textiles crafted by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes inhabiting the borderlands between Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, typically characterised by dark colour palettes and geometric motifs.

These pieces traditionally feature hand-spun wool piles knotted onto wool or cotton foundations, often dyed using natural vegetable and insect-based dyes to achieve deep, saturated tones.

Authentic antique examples generally exhibit irregularities in weave and symmetry, natural wear patterns, genuine wool fringe extensions integrated into the warp threads, and subtle colour variations known as abrash.

Such historic textiles add textural depth and grounding contrast when layered over hardwood flooring or neutral stone tiles in traditional studies, rustic living rooms, or eclectic hallways.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional specialist cleaning only, and rotation every few months to ensure even exposure to foot traffic and light.
