A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow set of drawers traditionally featuring a hinged locking side stile that secures all the drawers at once, named after the Duke of Wellington and originating in the early 19th century.

These chests are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, often featuring figured veneers such as fiddleback or flame mahogany, with hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery, solid secondary timbers like oak or pine inside the drawers, traditional hand-turned wooden knobs, and a functional locking mechanism with a working key and side bar.

Due to its vertical proportions and narrow footprint, this piece functions well in compact spaces or as an accent cabinet in a study or bedroom, pairing effectively with both traditional and modern decor.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and maintain the finish using traditional beeswax applied sparingly with a soft cloth.
