This French sculpture from 1910 belongs to the 19th Century French Animalier style and depicts a seated basset hound on an integrated naturalistic plinth base. Made of bronze with a dark brown finish, the object displays anatomical detailing and a textured fur pattern. The piece exhibits a light red/brown patina with moderate age-related wear, a stamp to the base, and later filling. The sculpture measures 12 cm high, 25 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Positioned on an office desk, this item suits a gentleman's library setting. The bronze hound rests on its haunches with its head lowered, featuring prominent drooping ears, visible muscular definition along the back and legs, and a curled tail extending backwards onto the textured base.

The Animalier movement originated in 19th-century France, popularized by artists such as Antoine-Louis Barye who focused on anatomical accuracy and realistic representations of animals.

These sculptures were cast in copper alloy bronze using either the lost-wax or sand casting method, followed by hand-chasing and chemical patination to achieve rich surface tones.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise cold working and chasing details, artist or foundry markings, appropriate weight, and natural surface oxidisation consistent with age.

A bronze animal sculpture functions well as a focal accent on an office desk, mantelpiece, or within a styled bookcase alongside leather-bound volumes and natural wood elements.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or soft brush, and apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the original patination.
