Description

A smart and very well made antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany desk / writing table. This was made in England, it dates from the 1900-1910 period.

It is of lovely quality, standing on tapered legs and brass casters. There is an inset leather writing surface with tooled edges and cross banding around the edges. There is also inlaid banding around the drawer fronts, as well as the side and back panels. The drawers have high quality brass handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. This is nicely finished on the back, so it can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There is just some minor wear here and there remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, favouring lighter proportions, delicate stringing, and satinwood inlay.

These desks were typically crafted using solid mahogany or satinwood veneers over a secondary timber base, featuring hand-tooled leather writing surfaces and cast brass or bronze hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, old-growth timber grains, and natural oxidisation on brass fittings and castors.

Pairing a period wooden desk with a contemporary minimalist chair creates a striking juxtaposition, anchoring a modern workspace with historical texture and warmth.

Maintain the leather insert by cleaning with a damp cloth and applying specialized leather balm periodically, while keeping the wooden frame away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
