The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the transition from walnut to imported mahogany as the primary timber.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany, often with secondary woods like pine or oak used for drawer linings and internal framing, complemented by brass hardware and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, historic patination, and the absence of modern machine-cut tool marks.

Pairing the item with contemporary seating or a minimalist mirror creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the historical timber grain and craftsmanship to serve as a focal point in a bedroom or home office.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically nourish the timber with traditional beeswax to protect the historic surface finish.
