FAQs

French painted beds trace their origins to the courtly neoclassical and Louis XV or Louis XVI periods, where hand-painted and carved wooden furniture became a hallmark of refined interior design.

These beds are typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as beech or oak, featuring hand-carved decorative motifs, mortise and tenon joints, and applied painted or gesso finishes.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved detailing with natural tool marks, aged patina on the painted surface, and historic hardware or fixings.

Pair the ornate carved frame with crisp, neutral linens and minimal modern lighting to balance the historical weight and create a sophisticated focal point in a bedroom.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid direct sunlight or moisture fluctuations to protect the delicate painted finish and historical wood structure.
