Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A jardiniere is an ornamental pot or receptacle for holding plants or flowers, which gained significant popularity during the Victorian era as interior indoor gardening became a fashionable pastime for the wealthy.

These decorative items were typically crafted from sheet brass or copper, often featuring hand-hammered surfaces, chased or engraved detailing, and sometimes paired with carved wooden or cast metal stands.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut joinery, aged patination, hand-engraved motifs rather than machine stamping, and specific weight and thickness characteristic of nineteenth-century metalwork.

An antique brass jardiniere can be utilised as a focal point on a sideboard or mantelpiece, either filled with a potted houseplant to introduce organic texture or left empty as a sculptural decorative object.

Maintain brass by gently dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip away the natural historical patina. If used for live plants, always place a protective inner liner inside the vessel to prevent moisture damage.
