Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Louis styles, encompassing Louis XIV, XV, and XVI periods, originated in the French royal courts, defined by evolving craftsmanship from heavy baroque grandeur to graceful rococo curves and neoclassical restraint.

These pieces are typically constructed from hardwoods such as beech or oak, featuring hand-carved ornamentation and finishes applied through water gilding or oil gilding with genuine metal leaf.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction details such as traditional joinery, tool marks from hand-carving, the ageing and wear of the gilt layer, and the use of period-appropriate upholstery techniques.

Pairing ornate, gilded period furniture with minimalist modern architecture and neutral textiles creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece without overwhelming the room.

Gilt wood should be dusted gently with a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the delicate metallic finish, while upholstery requires professional cleaning according to the fabric type.
