FAQs

Late 18th-century furniture, often associated with the Georgian period, typically features refined proportions, classical symmetry, and the prominent use of imported timber such as mahogany.

Authentic pieces are constructed using solid timber and veneers, frequently employing hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, oak or pine secondary woods, and cast brass hardware.

Authentication involves inspecting drawer construction for hand-cut dovetails, checking for period-appropriate timber shrinkage, examining timber patination, and verifying the presence of original or period-correct brass escutcheons and handles.

This piece can serve as a grounded focal point in a modern room, pairing well with neutral walls and contemporary art to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Preserve the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
