How do you clean the top?

Wipe it with a dry, soft cloth for daily dusting. If dirt builds up, use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution, drying it immediately. Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Buff it out well so it doesn't turn sticky.

Early antique oak dressing tables rarely had mirrors built into the frame. Georgian and Stuart makers designed them as flat surfaces for separate toilet mirrors. You rested a small standalone swing mirror on top. Fixed mirrors only became common practice much later in the Victorian era when plate glass got cheaper. Finding one without an attached glass is expected. It leaves the top clear and versatile.

The brass handles on the front look very dark and dull, should I try to polish them back to a bright shine?

Leave them dull. Old brass develops a mellow tone over the decades that suits aged oak. Polish strips away that patina. A light dust is all the hardware needs.
