Circa 1880. A stylish and elegant late Victorian two-part carved camphorwood military chest. The top with profusely carved back with simple side rails and moulded fore-edge, the chest has an unusual configuration of various sized drawers, all with flush military brass handles and circular escutcheons. Beneath the full-length drawer on the front there is a fitted secretaire drawer with a writing surface and one full length fitted pen drawer, arched pigeon holes. The fore edge of the chest is rounded and carved from top to bottom with a reeding section beside it. To the sides there is a pair of cast brass lifting handles for the top and bottom section. Beneath the bottom drawer there is various mouldings and a simple frieze and the whole piece stands on four turned and tapering feet.
