Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A secretaire military campaign chest is a specialised piece of British colonial furniture constructed for military officers to use on foreign deployments. It combines multiple storage drawers with a fold-down desk drawer designed for writing correspondence in the field.

These chests were typically crafted from sturdy, aromatic hardwoods such as camphor wood, teak, or mahogany to resist pest damage during maritime travel. Flush brass mounts, straps, and recessed handles were used to prevent snagging during transport.

Authentic campaign pieces feature recessed flush hardware, brass corner bindings, and often split into two separate transportable sections. Look for period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails and natural wear surrounding brass fittings.

A campaign chest serves as an effective statement piece in a study, hallway, or bedroom. Its structured form pairs well with dark leather seating, brass accents, and neutral woven textiles.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and polish the wood with beeswax occasionally to protect the original finish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on brass hardware to preserve its aged patina.
