Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cloisonne is an ancient decorative technique where metal wire is applied to a metal base to form intricate compartments, which are then filled with vitreous enamel paste, fired, and polished. Originating in the Near East, the technique was refined in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, becoming a prominent decorative craft for ceremonial and artistic vessels.

Cloisonne pieces are constructed using a copper or brass body onto which thin flattened wires, known as cloisons, are soldered to create pattern outlines. Coloured glass powder pastes are inlayed into these cells, repeatedly fired in a kiln to fuse, and finally ground smooth and gilded on exposed metal rims.

Authentic early 20th-century Chinese cloisonne features hand-bent wires, subtle pitting or small air bubbles in the enamel surface, and weighted cast metal bodies. Look for traditional motifs such as figural scenes, scrolling lotus foliage, or geometric borders, along with natural patination on untinned brass or copper bases.

A pair of cloisonne vases adds color, pattern, and historical interest when displayed symmetrically on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table. They work well alongside dark wood furniture, modern minimalist backdrops, or grouped with other Asian ceramics and brass decorative objects.

Dust cloisonne regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a delicate brush to clear intricate wire contours. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive polishes, or submerging the object in water, as moisture can seep beneath damaged wire borders and cause corrosion to the internal metal frame.
