Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian period, handbells were widely used for practical communication in households, schools, churches, and public service roles such as town criers. Cast brass handbells produced clear, resonant tones capable of carrying across large rooms or outdoor spaces.

Victorian handbells typically combine a cast brass or bronze bell body with a turned hardwood or ebony handle. The components are secured using a threaded steel rod running through the centre of the handle, topped with a brass finial nut.

Authentic 19th-century handbells exhibit hand-turned wooden handles with subtle irregularities, original iron or steel clappers inside, and cast brass bells showing concentric turning lines from historic lathe finishing. Maker marks or tuning numbers may also be stamped near the shoulder or interior rim.

An antique brass handbell functions well as a decorative accent on an office desk, console table, or library bookshelf. Pairing polished brass metalware with dark wood surfaces or stacked books creates a refined accent within traditional or dark academia interior schemes.

The brass body should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and cleaned using specialised metal polish to prevent tarnish, taking care to avoid contact with the wood. The wooden handle requires occasional treatment with wax polish to maintain the finish and prevent drying or splitting.
