This early 20th century Sheraton Revival pedestal desk dates from 1910 and has a golden amber satinwood construction with walnut crossbanding, boxwood stringing, and mahogany details. The shaped top holds an inset deep red leather writing surface finished with gold tooling, pressed edging, and expected surface marks from use, alongside a single drawer above the knee flanked by two upper surface drawers. Each shaped pedestal contains three graduated drawers fitted with ornate brass swan-neck handles and keyholes, all resting on tapered splayed legs that include high-standard restoration to the tip of one leg alongside minor surface marks to the woodwork. The desk measures 74.2 cm high, 106.8 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. Finished to the reverse for free-standing placement, the piece works well in various rooms around the home, including a study, living room, or bedroom. Its compact proportions lend themselves to practical daily use as a writing table or workspace.

Sheraton Revival furniture refers to pieces produced predominantly between 1890 and 1920 that replicate the late 18th-century neoclassical designs of Thomas Sheraton. Key characteristics include light timber veneers, slim proportions, geometric stringing, and delicate marquetry.

These desks predominantly feature satinwood veneers contrasted with darker timbers such as mahogany or rosewood for crossbanding. Cabinetry construction typically incorporates solid pine or oak drawer linings alongside cast brass handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural timber age oxidation inside drawer cavities, and genuine satinwood grain depth. Hardware usually shows slight irregularities consistent with hand-finishing processes from the era.

Position the desk in a dedicated home office or library setting alongside contemporary lighting and neutral walls to highlight the golden timber tones. Pairing the desk with a modern upholstered desk chair creates a balanced contrast between period craftsmanship and modern comfort.

Keep the desk away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting and colour bleaching. Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax will preserve the original patination.
