Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Caucasian Derbent rugs originate from the port city of Derbent in Dagestan, along the Caspian Sea. Produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these village-made textiles are celebrated for their bold geometric patterns, stepped medallions, and rich natural dyes reflecting the tribal heritage of the Caucasus.

These rugs are hand-knotted using locally sourced, hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation (warp and weft). The yarn is dyed using traditional vegetable and mineral dyes, and tied using the symmetrical (Ghiordes) knot technique to create a durable, dense structure.

Authentic pieces feature natural dye variations known as abrash, flexible dark wool warp threads, and hand-bound selvedges. The geometric motifs, stepped medallion arrangements, and subtle irregularities in alignment indicate hand-weaving rather than machine production.

A geometric Caucasian rug adds warmth and visual texture when placed over natural oak flooring, beneath a modern glass coffee table, or anchored within a traditional study. The deep indigo blue and terracotta shades pair effectively with contemporary neutral upholstery and timber furniture.

Vacuum regularly using suction only to avoid damaging the hand-knotted pile with a beater bar. Rotate the rug annually to distribute foot traffic and sun exposure evenly, and employ a qualified specialist textile cleaner for spot removal or deep cleansing.
