Beautiful rare tribal antique Sarab runner woven with the date at the top of the runner, reading 1287 which translates to 1870 in the Gregorian calendar. An amazing piece 153 years old and in fabulous condition.
Restoration is apparent on this runner as you would probably expect with a piece of this age, but it is scattered and minimal. We have beautiful dye change in the minor guardrail borders, going from light green to darker greens.
A light brown toned background, with pale blues, indigo blues, pinks and green detailing in the connecting lozenge design. A delightful intricate design woven with great skill. A very attractive tribal runner woven in East Azerbaijan which is one of 30 provinces in north-west Persia.
Sarab is famous for good quality runners and rugs and their design is almost always geometric, with repeating medallions. More often the medallions are hex-column, meaning the hexagons are attached to each other through the length of the runner like we see on
...this piece.
