Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This eighteenth-century Danish serpentine front commode follows a Scandinavian country style and splits into two pieces for transport. The piece is constructed from painted wood in an off-white colour with a visible aged texture, and includes original brass handles and keyhole escutcheons on each of its four drawers. Distinctive details include shaped mouldings framing the drawer fronts and short cabriole legs that elevate the base from the floor. Measuring 114 cm high, 119 cm wide, and 64 cm deep, the commode provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining a compact footprint. This chest of drawers suits placement in a bedroom, hallway, or living room as a practical surface for display and storage.

FAQs

A serpentine front commode is a chest of drawers featuring a subtle S-curve profile across its front face, a design popularized during the 18th-century Rococo period across Europe.

These pieces were typically constructed from indigenous softwoods or oak and finished with distemper or oil paints in light shades to maximize natural light reflection in Northern European interiors.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved joinery such as irregular dovetailed drawers, natural wear patterns exposing underlying wood grain or gesso, and period-appropriate cast metal hardware.

A light painted commode creates a functional focal point in an entryway, bedroom, or living room, pairing naturally with contemporary artwork, neutral linen textiles, and minimal ceramics.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid commercial polishes or excess water, which can damage original, delicate historic paint layers.
