FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and an evolution from heavy walnut to lighter mahogany timbers.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense imported mahogany, often complemented by secondary softwoods like pine or oak for drawer linings and internal framing, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, consistent timber shrinkage, period-appropriate brass hardware, and natural tool marks on the interior surfaces rather than modern machine sanding.

A classic wooden piece grounds a modern scheme by adding tactile warmth and historical contrast, pairing effectively with minimalist walls, contemporary abstract art, or sleek metal lighting.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying occasional coats of traditional beeswax, avoiding silicone-based polishes and direct sunlight.
