Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The interior has a central cupboard, flanked by "secret" document drawers with applied columned fronts, and a further four drawers on each side, the outer ones being serpentine shaped, and all with brass knob handles. This very desirable bureau stands on later, but sympathetic bracket feet and has a lovely light honey coloured surface and wax finish. It is in excellent condition, and therefore unlikely to be with us for long.
