Antique William 1v Large Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase with Secret Compartments C1820 Wdb6001a&b/19.10

This is a fabulous antique william 1v mahogany secretaire bookcase being tall and imposing and of excellent quality mahogany. It has a cornice top above a mahogany frieze with two glazed doors with working key and with three adjustable shelves. The base has a moulded edge to the top above one long false drawer front of flamed mahogany with cross banded edge and original turned mahogany knob handles inset with mother of pearl with brass key escutcheon and working key and which folds down to reveal a stunning quality rosewood interior. To the centre is a rosewood panel which opens via a spring catch which is hidden under the baise writing surface and then opens to reveal a hidden compartment. To either side there is a small drawer and there are two pigeon holes with shaped frieze above one of which is a secret drawer. There is also a flight of four small drawers to each side and all of which are oak lined with original small ivory handles. Please note that the green baise writing surface is not 'as vivid as shown in the photograph!!'.

The secretaire drawer is above two flamed and raised panelled doorswith key and with carved corbal saupports to each side internally there are there are three sliding trays and two very deep drawers to the base with brass handles and it stands on a deep plinth base.

In very good condition and with a lovely deep colour and patination to the mahogany oozing quality charm and character of the period.
