Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Academic Realism in the late nineteenth century focused on anatomical accuracy, idealised human forms, and classical proportions. Sculptors often portrayed allegorical themes, industrial motifs, and historic figures using precise lost-wax or sand-casting techniques.

These sculptures were primarily cast in bronze, an alloy composed mainly of copper and tin. Foundry craftsmen utilised sand casting or lost-wax methods, followed by hand-chasing to refine details and applying chemical patinas to protect and colour the metal surface.

Authentic period bronzes display sharp chased detail in features such as hair and clothing, along with distinct foundry stamps or impressed artist signatures near the base. They also exhibit natural surface wear to the patina and proper structural weight consistent with solid cast metal.

Position the piece on a dark wood sideboard or executive desk where its metallic texture contrasts against neutral background surfaces. Combine it with contemporary stone or glass accents to ground the historic sculpture within a modern living space.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. To preserve the original patination, avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive polishes, applying a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually if surface protection is required.
