Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Chinese provincial chest of drawers is constructed from painted wood and iron. The piece presents a distressed black lacquer finish with visible wear, featuring a multi-drawer layout comprising three small top drawers above two larger drawers, positioned over a double-door cabinet. Details include flared side brackets, metal ring pull handles on each drawer and door, and simple block feet. It measures 81 cm high, 133 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, offering substantial storage capacity. The rustic farmhouse aesthetic suits modern domestic interiors as a statement sideboard in a living room, a hallway storage console, or a distinctive bedroom chest.

FAQs

Constructed for practical household storage, these chests often featured hand-carved joinery, layered paint or lacquer finishes, and functional drawer and cupboard arrangements popular throughout rural regions in the 19th century.

Artisans traditionally utilised local softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, elm, or poplar, finished with natural lacquers or milk paints and fitted with hand-forged iron or brass ring pull hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, genuine wear patterns on high-contact edges showing undercoats or bare timber, and handmade metal hardware with minor irregularities.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway or dining room, balancing its textured, patinated finish with clean contemporary artwork, subtle ceramic vases, or a modern wall mirror mounted above.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and keep the furniture away from direct heat sources or intense sunlight to prevent paint flaking and wood shrinkage.
