Early 18th Century Oak Bureau

18th century
Description

An extremely rare and exceptional quality George I figured Oak Bureau of very small proportions having good colour and patina, in remarkably good original condition, retaining original handles, locks, hinges and the original feet with repairs to the two at the back. The shaped stepped interior is an outstanding piece of cabinet work, in fact it the best one we've ever seen on a small Bureau. It is fitted with a multitude of secret drawers and hidden compartments. The piece is banded throughout in mahogany, it has clean original Oak linings and components. It is really amazing to see how clean and untouched the secret drawers are with the immaculate original ring drops still in place. There is even a tiny lock on the sliding well to the centre of the interior, a feature we have never seen before. A sliding lock is fitted to the long drawer below the well that is operated via the well. The working key for the fall also works the locks on all the long drawers.

An extraordinary piece of 18th Century English Furniture.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
