A rare and unique Victorian Staffordshire China Jug with handpainted floral decoration and gilding.
It has a superb (and rather enigmatic) inscription across the middle front of the exterior of the Jug:
“Sergeant A Cottrell, 1st Battalion, 24th Regiment: January 1st, 1863:
‘When this you see, remember me,
And hear me in your mind,
Let all the world say what it will,
Speak of me as you find.’ ”
