This Arts and Crafts jardiniere from 1900 functions practically as a planter or a wine cooler. Fashioned from copper, the vessel displays a rich copper colour throughout its polished surface. A scalloped frilled rim crowns the top opening, whilst a repousse botanical seed pod motif adorns the front body. Riveted strap legs secure the frame, terminating at the base in paw feet. The piece measures 28 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 30 cm deep. Positioned within a modern interior, the item sits comfortably upon a sideboard top or acts as a decorative accent within a sunlit conservatory. The curved base supports the cylindrical body above the surface, while the metal construction offers durability for holding plants or chilling bottles. The rich tone complements various interior styles, providing a functional focal point in living spaces or dining rooms.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised handcrafted production, visible construction methods, and organic motifs derived from nature, rejecting mass industrial manufacturing.

These vessels were typically crafted from sheet copper or brass, shaped by hand-hammering, decorated using repousse embossing, and assembled using functional metal rivets.

Authentic period pieces usually exhibit hand-riveted joints, subtle hammer marks, period-appropriate botanical repousse designs, and signs of aged oxidisation within recessed areas.

Position the copper vessel on a sideboard, deep windowsill, or mantelpiece filled with potted ferns or trailing plants to contrast warm metallic tones against green foliage.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft dry cloth, and fit a protective waterproof liner inside to prevent direct soil and water contact from corroding the metal.
