Elmgarden has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The bureau is superbly carved from solid oak, it has a carved fall and gallery which has a very attractively shaped top, the drawers have carved cats faces and if you are brave enough to put your hand into their mouths they make jolly good handles, all the drawers run well
It has a fall front which when open is supported by long pull rests at each side of the top drawer, inside the fall there is a fitted interior with pigeon holes and drawers, the original leather is still present but it is rather worn
This is a good old piece of furniture, it is in pretty good condition there are a few minor stains on the upper surface but there is nothing structurally wrong with the piece
The desk stands 44” high, 36” wide and it is 20” deep
