Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Italian country sideboard stands as a long buffet crafted from pine, featuring a distressed yellow paint finish over aged wood. The piece incorporates a high back gallery with curved side supports, four panelled cupboard doors with recessed rectangular panels, and visible iron strap hinges mounted externally on the doors. Small metal latches serve as handles on the doors, which sit above a flat base resting directly on the floor. The surface shows extensive wear and chipping to the paint, revealing the underlying timber tones and lighter patches across the body and backrest. Measuring 135 cm high, 262 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the unit provides substantial storage capacity. Suitable for use in a rustic farmhouse dining room, kitchen, or hallway, the buffet functions as a display surface and storage cabinet. The wide top surface accommodates decorative objects, table linens, or serving pieces, while the interior cupboards hold tableware and household items. The distressed yellow finish and high back design anchor the piece against a wall in traditional or eclectic interiors.

FAQs

Italian painted buffets are traditional country furniture pieces featuring softwood construction, multi-door storage, and distressed hand-painted finishes reflective of regional historic crafts.

These sideboards were typically crafted from local softwoods such as pine or poplar, finished with layered paint or gesso, and fitted with forged iron hardware.

Authentic original painted finishes display uneven wear around handles, edges, and high-touch areas, alongside natural craquelure, paint layering, and oxidised wood underneath.

A painted buffet serves as a statement storage piece in modern dining rooms, hallways, or open-plan living spaces, contrasting well against contemporary minimalist art or structured ceramics.

Preserve painted finishes by dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoiding liquid cleaners or harsh chemicals that could strip historic paint layers.
